Today I went on a field trip with Ethan to the Salmon Hatchery in Issaquah. When I woke up and realized how dark and rainy it was, I was dreading the day, but it ended up being a lot of fun and extremely interesting... who knew!

Before arriving at the Salmon Hatchery we made a pit stop at the Cedar River to see if we could spot any salmon swimming down stream and, of course, we did!

When we arrived at the Salmon Hatchery we started by going on a tour where we learned the life cycle and the various species of salmon, and the reason for the hatchery in Washington. I don't think I ever realized what an interesting life a salmon has. Did you know that some salmon actually travel over 3,000 miles before returning home?! Wow. We also saw all the different stages of the salmon eggs, but the best part is that we were there during spawning.

WARNING: The following picture is not for those with a weak stomach! EEeeeeew! It's pretty safe to say that this part was the most excting for all the kids... well, at least for my group of all boys. This is where they saw them gut the salmon and take out the eggs and then they put them through some machine (I'm still not quite sure what the purpose of the machine was), but it shot them out into these large tubs. The boys actually liked when they got splattered with fish guts. ugggghh...

They got to look at and hold some of the fish eggs and some even got to take some home... so now I have three fish eggs in a bag on my kitchen counter. What am I supposed to do with that?!!?

I had a lot of fun spending the day with Ethan and I'm glad that he's still so excited when I'm able to go on field trips with him!

Oh my goodness... I just love those dimples. When he was a baby I thought he might outgrow them, but he's almost nine and I think it's safe to say they're here to stay.

What a fun field trip! I could almost smell the fish with your crystal clear pictures you took.
Cool! I can just imagine that Ethan was fascinated with all that! Yes, I love those dimples, too!
Hey! I just started another photography class last night and ran into someone from Maple Valley. I asked if she knew you two and it turns out her name is Adrienne Munk! Small world!
you weren't joking with the EEEEEWWWW factor! ;) I love field trips ~ it seems to me that if we took the kids it would be "Boring" but for some reason, going with your class is SO cool and interesting!! :)
Small world for sure! Heather and I started playing the do you know game and yours was the first she mentioned. :) I can't believe how big your kids are getting. They are so cute!
with those dimples he will have girls wrapped around his little finger when he gets older!
