Planes from WWII
Yes. Fred joined us on our adventure...
He even found a plane just his size!
The girls were excited to see everything. With their map in hand, they led the way and I just followed along.
Checking out one of the world's fastest jets. British Airways donated one of its recently retired Concorde supersonic airliners to the Museum. The jet is one of only twenty Concordes ever built!
I'm not sure why they had a little putt putt golf green beneath the concord, but the girls loved it.
Next we toured through the old Air Force One plane used by Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. Pretty cool!
Can anyone guess what this is? It is the filling of the mint and regular frosting inside an oreo cookie. Who wouldn't want to take it out, roll it up in a ball, and consume? Eww. I was trying not to gag as I enjoyed my own PB&J sandwich.
After lunch, we headed off to do a little more exploring before our scheduled tour.
The plane below is The Blackbird Marvel and one of the fastest aircraft ever built. The Blackbird family of aircraft cruised at speeds of more than Mach 3 and altitudes of over 85,000 feet. Wow!
Most of the planes were pretty awesome and exciting. However, there were a few that after learning about and viewing more closely, we determined there was NO WAY in heck would we would give them a go. This first one is powered by a small motor as well as the power of pedaling. If you tire out... you crash.
Nuh-uh. I'm confident I would just fall off the side of this one.
This one looks pretty fun, and I would love every minute of it until I had to land it with those large wings. It would not be pretty.
Now this one I would definately want to try. A flying car. It sounds really cool. I'm not sure why it never caught on, but maybe it has something to do with that big hunk of metal attached to the back that doesn't really look very well engineered. But looks aren't everything. I want one.
Spent a few minutes in the gift shop! The girls found tons of stuff they wanted. Shocking, I know.
The day ended with a little class on the dynamics of flight and a small tour. The kids even got to use their knowledge to make their own little model airplanes. They actually really liked this part and I loved our super cute guide. He was adorable and he loved planes. And now I love them too.
By the end of the day we were all pooped.
